White Oak
Interesting Tree Facts:
The longest living known White Oak was 600 years old.
A vital commodity in early American history, this naturally strong and durable wood was used for wine and whiskey barrels as well as ship building.
Acorns are rich in oil, carbohydrates and protein. Native Americans ate acorns roasted on a rack, or boiled down to create an edible mush.
Isaiah used the oak as a symbol of enduring strength of faith when writing to the mourning people of Zion, "They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor." (Isaiah 61:3)
In the Middle East and Holy Lands, the tree called "oak" is an evergreen that more closely resembles the American Holly.
